Social Media

Although I have only been in the psychology of social media course for 2 weeks thus far, It has already been extremely enlightening. We live in a world dominated by social media use and technology just keeps advancing each and every day. This week we also talked about how to keep a balance within your life while using social media to combat becoming addicted to it. I do think think that when used appropriate that social media has it's benefits and can help people keep in touch when other ways aren't possible. I also have learned how much technology has advanced and social media has evolved in it short lifetime. As a person who grew up with technology to assist me, I never truly thought about how different every aspect of a person's life would be without technology, especially school. One thing that I found particularly interesting about this weeks discussion was how not all of us jump on the new social media craze right away. In one of our discussions we talked about how many of us did not have myspace, or hid that we did from our parents atlas, and that when any birds came out, many of us waited to download it unlike our peers. I assume that one positive about growing up in a world where social media has become overwhelmingly present is that we know how to filter through what is presented to us and make educated decisions about what we use and post online.
