Catfishing & Being Whomever You Want To Be Online
What has catfishing done to our society?
Does catfishing look different than we typically assume?
In class this week we talked about how catfishing has evolved, (with great help from the documentary and then the hit television show), from a nonsense term to something we now gain entertainment from. So what exactly is cat-fishing you ask?, well it ultimately is defined as falsely identifying as someone other than ones actual self. From this definition it is hard not to compare how we in todays society with technology can catfish people without intentionally trying to. Such as when we filter our pictures before posting them on social media by whitening our teeth to making ourselves skinnier. Aren't we in fact providing the world a false representation of ourselves. When we put the best edited photos on our Tinders, are we not showing those who match with us a different person than who we are on a day to day basis?
